Professor Jeff Gates is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu 1st degree Black Belt under Bobby Thompson with more than 10 years of BJJ training experience. His martial arts background extends beyond Jiu-Jitsu, with previous training in Aikido as well as earning the rank of Brown Belt in Taekwondo.

At Xequemate Jiu-Jitsu in Jacksonville, FL, Jeff brings that diverse martial arts experience to the mats with a focus on advanced technique, technical details, and practical self-defense. His classes give students the opportunity to expand their understanding of Jiu-Jitsu while learning how techniques can be applied both in training and in real world situations.

Jeff is also a big part of the community that makes Xequemate more than just a place to train. When he isn't teaching or rolling, there's a good chance you'll find him behind the grill at one of our gym events. Known as our unofficial “Master of the Grilling Arts,” Jeff helps bring together the laid back, family atmosphere that makes our Jacksonville BJJ academy feel like home.
