Professor Alejandro “Alex” Abreu
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt | Instructor
Professor Alejandro “Alex” Abreu is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt under Bobby Thompson and an experienced competitor who spent years actively competing throughout the belt ranks. His competition experience, technical knowledge, and continued dedication to studying the finer details of Jiu-Jitsu make him a valuable part of the coaching team at Xequemate Jiu-Jitsu in Jacksonville, FL.
Alex has a particular passion for working with kids. His coaching style combines technical instruction with discipline, patience, confidence, and personal growth, helping young students develop skills that benefit them both on and off the mats.
Before his coaching career, Alex served in the U.S. Navy as a military working dog handler, completing four deployments and receiving training in close-quarters combat. Today, he continues his work with dogs as a K-9 behavioral instructor, helping families develop better-trained and more disciplined companions.
Alex also holds a master’s degree in nutrition and exercise science, giving him an additional understanding of fitness, performance, and the physical demands of training.
Whether he’s helping a young student gain confidence, sharing competition knowledge, or rolling with experienced teammates, Ale brings a unique combination of real-world experience, education, and high-level Jiu-Jitsu knowledge to our Jacksonville BJJ community.
